  • This research to describe the students mathematical communication skills of Sunan Kalijogo Jabung Junior High School in problem solving based on Van Hiele’s level. This research use descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were the students of Sunan Kalijogo Jabung Junior High School Class VIII-A consisting of thirty students taken by two subjects at each level. The data of this research were obtained from VHGT tests, mathematical communication tests, and interviews. The instruments in this research were VHGT instruments, mathematical communication instruments, and interview instruments. Data analysis techniques for qualitative approaches are done by data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusions. The results showed the students mathematical communication skills of Sunan Kalijogo Jabung Junior High School in problem solving to build a flat side space based on the Van Hiele level. Overall the students mathematical communication skillsof class VIII-A at Sunan Kalijogo Jabung Junior High School in problem solving on the Van Hiele level are mostly at level 2 (Abstract/Sorting) which states that students have been able to stated the information given to be mathematical ideas and sketch matehematical problems to determine the steps or formula to be used, and solve matematical problems wiyh symbols or mathematical models acording to systematic steps. It is seen that students have conveyed what known and asked, draw a beam, use the appropriate formula, and work steps in sequence and systematic.
