- One of the important elements in language is collocation because they are used in daily life. Nevertheless, learners must do some effort to understand and learn the basic of words combination known as collocation; even more in classifying types and patterns of collocation are more difficult. This research discusses the types and patterns of collocation in Dumb and dumber movie English version. Researcher used documentary analysis and Human instrument which were focusing on the analysis of the movie (Peter Farrelly and Bennet Yellin', 1994). The study is qualitative research because it describes what are the types and patterns of collocation. The data were selected from the movie conversation and manuscript which contain English collocations that said by main characters (Lloyd, Harry, and Mary) of the movie. The research reveals that the researcher found 74 grammatical collocations or 38% of 193 collocations and 119 lexical collocations or 62 % from 193 collocations. For the patterns, there are seven pattern combinations that found in this movie. First, verb + preposition, the researcher found 56 collocations or 30% of 193 collocations. Second, adjective + preposition, the researcher found 17 collocations or 10% of 193 collocations. Third, noun + particular form of verb, the researcher found 2 collocations or 2% of 193 collocations. Fourth, adverb + adjective, the researcher found 9 collocations or 5% of 193 collocations. Fifth, adjective + noun, the researcher found 73 collocations or 36% of 193 collocations. Sixth, noun + verb, the researcher found 3 collocations or 2% of 193 collocations. Seventh, verb + noun, the researcher found 31 collocations or 15% of 193 collocations. The most dominant for collocation types is lexical collocations this type were 119 collocations or 62 % from 193 collocations. And for the pattern is adjective + noun, the researcher found 73 collocations or 36% of 193 collocations from the whole movie. So that, in learning collocation the learners have consciousness and knowing the importance of using collocation for their ability in movie context.
