- The researcher conducted this study to know the strategy that the student from translation class used in translating collocation word. This study is aimed to learn and analyze the strategy in translating collocation word from English to Indonesian language. This research was also explaining the steps that the students used in translating collocation word. There are two research questions in this study, the first one is the strategy that the students used in translating collocation and the second one is the ways that the students used in translating the collocation word. This research used qualitative method to collect the data. The object that the researcher use are the document that already translated by translation students who already taking the collocation material. The instrument used in this study was interview guide. The interview was conducted to answer the second research question which is describing the ways that the students used in translating the collocation word. The findings showed that there are three strategies that the students used in translating collocation, there are literal strategy, synonymy strategy transposition strategy. The students translating the collocation by word-by-word, looking for the same meaning, and changing the part of speech of the word. In conclusion, the researcher hope that the students will pay more to the collocation word in their translation result to make the word sounds natural as the source text.
