  • Background: Visual fatigue or asthenopia is a disorder characterized by somatic symptoms or perceptions such as headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, and a sensation of foreign bodies around the eyes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between sleep quality and the incidence of asthenopia in Nursing Science Study Program Students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Method: This type of research is cross sectional, with the independent variable is sleep quality, while the dependent variable is Asthenopia. Sampling technique using purposive sampling, with a samples of 150 Nursing Science Study Program Students of 2016-2018. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Analysis of data using the Spearman Rank test. Results: Test data analysis between the correlation of sleep quality with the incidence of asthenopia in students, obtained a significance value smaller than α 5% (0,000 <0,05). So there is a correlation between the quality of sleep with the incidence of asthenopia in Nursing students of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Conclusion: The more poor sleep quality in students, the higher the incidence of asthenopia, and vice versa. Thus, there is a correlation between sleep quality and the incidence of asthenopia in Nursing students of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Therefore, students are expected to improve their quality of sleep so that the incidence of asthenopia can also be reduced.
