- Background: Pneumonia is a lung parenchymal infection caused by significant morbidity and mortality. Pneumonia is the result of proliferation of microbial pathogens at the alveolar level and host response to pathogens. Ceftriaxone is the most commonly prescribed empirical antibiotic before obtaining the results of a microbiological examination. Objective: This study to know the pattern of ceftriaxone use in patients pneumonia at Karsa Husada Batu Hospital Methods: The observational study employed retrospective method in pneumonia patients from January 2019 - June 2019. Results and Conclusions: The pattern of using ceftriaxone monotherapy was 14 patients (42%), combination of ceftriaxone with two other antibiotics in 18 patients (55%) and ceftriaxone combination of three other antibiotics in 1 patient (3%). The most common pattern of using ceftriaxone monotherapy (2x1g) IV the pattern was given in 11 Patients (33%), the most combination of two ceftriaxone (2x1g) IV and levofloxacin (1x500 mg) IV in 11 patients (33%), then the most common pattern combination of three ceftriaxone (2x1g) IV, levofloxacin 1x500 mg IV and gentamicyn (1x80mg) IV in 1 patient (33%). The switching pattern in patients with pneumonia using ceftriaxone therapy is 10 patterns.
