- The advances in computer technology are developing very rapidly, so then it can be helpful to apply in various fields, such as economic, government, health, and others. For the case study of this research is in the field of health, specifically HIV/AIDS, in purpose of diagnosing the disease by using an expert system. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a disease which has not found the cure yet. HIV is a virus that attacks the immune of sufferers. The method used in this research was backward chaining and certainty factor. The backward chaining method was used for matching the facts or statements, while the certainty factor method was used to indicate certainty of the facts or statements. Based on expert testing that had been done, it concluded that the results obtained by using 50 test data gave the accuracy value result of 86%.
