  • PLTS off grid is a solar power plant that stands alone or is not connected to the PLN electricity network where the electricity generated is stored in the battery. A bad battery management, the power from the source is not stored optimally, and the charging time is longer and the battery is damaged. This study aims to design a battery charging system that a lithium-ion type with a nominal voltage specification of 120V 150Ah by using a power source produced by solar panels. There are two main parts in the system to be designed, namely MPPT with buck converter to maximize power from solar panels with a power of 20kW. The output from MPPT will be processed again for the battery charging process. The method for charging the battery used is 4-stage charging, which is there are 4 stages in the charging process, PWM, constant current, constant voltage and float charge using a buck converter to reduce the voltage. The 4-stage charging method aims to speed up the battery charging process and reduce the risk of overcharge. The design of the battery charging system with the 4-stage charging method compared to the conventional method using SIMULINK MATLAB simulation assistance which was run for 3000 seconds showed that the 4-stage charging method was faster in terms of charging time with a battery capacity of 97.58% while the conventional method only reached capacity of 93.94%.
