  • Writing thesis or final task become a requirement to finish a study in higher education. Writing anxiety types is classified into three aspect such as, cognitive, somatic, and behavior avoidance. In case of the cause of writing anxiety, it was also classified into three aspects, such as pre-writing, main-writing, and post-writing. It is assumed that the students also have their own strategy to reduce their anxiety. This study aimed to identify the types of writing anxiety experienced by ELED students writing their thesis, to investigate the causes of ELED students’ writing anxiety in writing thesis, to know the strategies to cope anxiety in writing thesis. This research used both qualitative and quantitative method. The quantitative method was applied to gain the data of types of students writing anxiety and also the cause of writing anxiety by using questionnaire. Therefore, the instruments were Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) questionnaire and Cause of Writing Anxiety Inventory (CWAI) questionnaire. The qualitative method was applied to gain the data from interview section as the instrument. Based on the findings in this research, it is indicated that generally, the main types of students’ anxiety is somatic writing anxiety. The most cause of students’ anxiety was in the main-writing aspect but the highest cause was that the students’ linguistic problem and insufficient of writing technique. Furthermore, there were various strategies used by students such as parents’ motivation, being self-confident, and also well-prepared to cope their anxiety in writing thesis.
