- Poster is a publication tool that is still very much in interest today. Until now, posters remain the main choice for providing information related to the activities to be held. Quite often the poster contains pictures / illustrations as part of supporting visual messages and also has its own aesthetic value. The thing that attracts the attention of researchers in the theme of this study is about the extent of the cultural content in the poster. Especially art and culture because it includes aesthetic elements in it. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the cultural meaning contained in a film festival poster. This cultural meaning refers to human attitudes and behavior every day which are then displayed through publications namely posters. The method in this study uses a qualitative research method using the theory of Roland Barthes Semiotics which contains important elements namely denotation, connotation and myth. The unit of analysis in this study is the 2018 Malang Film Festival poster The results of research on the 2018 Malang Film Festival Poster, Culture as part of human life is portrayed diverse through a series of symbols that represent cultural diversity. Leaning culture not only on local culture but also abroad. Malang Film Festival 2018 makes mixing culture as a way to form an idea. This idea itself can be in the form of a message that there is a moral value in the series of process of organizing this festival. This moral value is systematically presented through symbols that come from foreign cultures. The representation of foreign culture on this poster is, collaboration on each symbol that contains different cultural values and then produce new ideas.
