- Rika Farida, a female photographer came from Malang, also known as @lilqueenr on Instagram. She is one of the most famous portrait photography influencer which got a high public recognition. One of her works, titled Shall I Stay is the most engaging photoworks content on her instagram account. It tells the series of sad story about a woman that packed up with the same time setting, venue set, model and property. Although it was a same series, but each photo contains a different stories and values. Each sadness on Shall I Stay not always portrayed with a sad or crying expression. Far from that common things about sadness, Rika portrayed women who looks enjoyed doing their activities, for example, dancing and playing around with sunflowers. This research is aimed at finding out and reveals the representation of sadness in a photoworks titled Shall I Stay, by Rika Farida. This research applied library research and all of the photos that compiled through documentation were analyzed with interpretative qualitative method. This method tried to interpreted, explained and analyzed the sadness representation on each photos using the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes. For the semiotic analysis, the writer explain the data and classifying it as a signified, signifier that could be interpreted as a connotative meaning to figure out what kind of myth lies within each photoworks. After analyzing all the portrait photoworks of Shall I Stay by Rika Farida, it could be concluded that Rika portrayed sadness lies within every woman that having a nearly same problem on their life, a romantic relationship problem. An uncertainty that came up from their romantic partner leads them to their own sadness and made them degrade their own value, their true feelings and their inner soul. They constantly drowned to their own sadness and get hurt because of their own expectations, since they put a high loyalty on their own romantic partners.Since every woman that portrayed by Rika doesn’t able to fulfill their own expectations, they tend to get hurt and felt that sadness and grief while they live their own life.
