  • This life can’t be separated from the sights for seeing phenomenon. Photojournalism is becoming a visual medium to deliver the messages between the good and the bad. Social phenomenon, culture, and environmental is included on it’s message. Putu Sayoga as a photographer has documented the disaster issue about earthquake, tsunami and liquefaction in Palu that was became the worst natural disaster in the kaleidoscope of 2018. This research is using the semiotics theory based on the signified and signifier that could be implemented in the visual element and be perfected by two meaning of Roland Barthes. It’s using the denotation concept, connotation concept that including pose, object, photogenia, aestheticism and syntax, and also the myth concept. The purpose is to break the meaning from the symbol that is appearing in the Palu natural disaster photo on Le Monde France Daily. That stage of methods is being research to get the result about how the implicit and explicit meaning, that indicated from the signs in it. The relation between each signs are studied to create an impactful meaning. The approach that will be used for breaking the meaning from the symbol is the qualitative approach with interpretative type to explain how the meaning in the natural disaster of photojournalism by Putu Sayoga. The researcher is seeing the visual and text aspects on the photojournalism and using five photos that can be seen on the disaster perspective. The result of the research is showing that the photos of natural disaster is having some meanings from the symbols that present the disaster message from the realm that is still included on the social and environmental aspects. Based on the analysis, the photos that is in the 7th-9th of October, 2018 edition is reviewing about how the condition and situation in Palu that’s not escape from the disaster. By the visual element among the people and environment that become an important unity from the result of the natural disaster photo. The photo post disaster is having the meaning about optimistic journalism message and appropriate with the context of the cultural identity in Indonesia. The positive encouragement in photo visualization is presented on various aspects, so that can be the medium for arousing the society to have more social concern with other people.
