  • A large number of houte that used brick to construct it’s wall resources to decline, brick mixture can inovated by using oil palm shells. In this study, palm oil shell waste was used as fine aggregate subtitute. The testing incluuides compressive strength and specific gravity test. Brick mixture use a ratio of 1 cement: 6 sand. Palm shells were taken from industrial waste in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The percentage of oil palm shells as substitution of fine aggregate was 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%. Compressive strength of brick was tested with was palm oil shells percentage levels of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and the results was 11.13 Mpa, 12.08 Mpa, 9.88 Mpa, 7.4 Mpa and 3.38 Mpa, respective In the compressive strength test results, the variation of the percentage of 0%, 5%, 10% included in the quality level I used in non-structurally protected. For the results of the percentage of 15% and 20% included in the level IV which is used for non-structural walls protected from the weather. The result of specific gravity percentage of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% was 2010 kg / m3, 1880 kg / m3, 1910 kg / m3, 1750 kg / m3 and 1670 kg / m3. The use of oil palm shells as substitutes for fine aggregates in brick is not very beneficial, because the oil palm shell is an organic material that can rot and porous in concrete or brick.
