  • Background: COPD (Chronic Obstuctive Pulmonary Disease) is a health problem with high prevalence in the world. In Indonesia, COPD ranks fifth of diseases that cause death. For COPD patients self management is something that is complex, patients required to be able to self-curbing. Because there is no cure for COPD, the goal of COPD treatment is to improve or maintain the quality of life of the patient. The aims of this research is to determine relationship between self management and life quality of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulomanary Disease) patient. Method: This research using cross-sectional design, conducted on COPD patients who were on out-patient care in Pulmonary Poly of Tk. II dr. Soepraoen Hospital, using accidental sampling on 30 respondents. The research instrument used in this reseach are Self Management Ability Score (SMAS) and WHOQOL-BREFF questionnaires. Result: The result showed that the majority (56.7%) of respondents self-management were good and the majority (76.7%) of the quality of life of respondents were good, the results of the bivariate test showed that there was no relationship between self-management and the quality of life of COPD patients (p = 0.236). Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between self management and the quality of life of COPD patients in Pulmonary Poly of Tk. II dr. Soepraoen Hospital. This is can influenced by the age of respondent and the surrounding environment.
