- Culture and communication have reciprocal relationship. Communication affects culture and vice versa. The relationship between communication and culture is important to be understood because through culture, people can learn to communicate. This study is aimed to determine ritual communication process carried out by people in Cangar in maintaining Gemulo spring through Spring Festival. In this study, it was used qualitative approach while the type of research used was descriptive with the basis of ethnographic communication research. The data were obtained through observation, interview and documentation techniques, while research subject determination was done using snowball sampling technique. The data analysis technique used was Miles and Huberman model. Based on the result of the study, ritual communication process carried out by Cangar community in maintaining Gemulo spring through spring festival has three communicative stages, namely: Communicative Situation which describes sacredness of spring ritual, Communicative Event which is the rescue of spring held every month of Suro or Muhharam while the Spring Festival is held not according to cultural rules, and Communicative Action in forms of request, statement and nonverbal messages that must be preserved by young generation.
