- Background: One of the main course of infection is Shigella. It is a Gram Negative bacteria. Using antibiotic with prolonge and irregulaty made it is resistant. Therefore, it is important to find out the answere sources of antibacteria to anticiple the develope resistant of bacteria. Objective : This study aimed to observe the antimicrobial activities of etanol fraction of the r E. palmifolia (L) Merr against S. dysenteriae bacteria with disk diffusion method. Method : Antibacterial activity assay using disk diffusion method. Etanol fraction of the E. palmifolia (L) Merr was processed by immersion maceration in order to separate the polar molecule and then secondary metabolites identified by the KLT method. The test concentrations used were 8%, 12% and 16% of the S. dysenteriae bacteria. Before the antibacterial application was carried out, MHA and MHB media were made and then the bacteria were planted. Identification is carried out after planting bacteria and incubating for 24 hours. Result and Conclusion : The etanol fraction of the E. palmifolia (L) Merr has antibacterial activity against S. dysenteriae with concentration 8% b/v (6.400 μg/disc) is 9.34 mm; 12% b/v (9.600 μg/disc) is 10.73 mm and 16% b/v (12.800 μg/disc) is 10.89 mm. The result rising of concentration rising the clear zone and more poten to Gram negative bacteria (S. dysenteriae).
