  • Background: Fungi is one of the causes of candidiasis. The major problem of candidiasis are Candida albicans. Candida albicans is the normal flora on the skin, hair, nails, mucous membranes, oral cavity and digestive tract. Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the class of chemical compounds contained in the ethanol fraction of the tubers of Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr and also to obtain the value of the inhibitory zone diameter of the ethanol fraction of tuber Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr to the Candida albicans fungi growth with disc diffusion method. Method: This investigation focuses on using disc diffusion method and ethanol fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia (L)tubers, obtained by multilevel maceration method then secondary metabolites were identified by the KLT method. The test of concentration used for the Antifungal activity test are 80 mg/ml, 120 mg/ml, and 180 mg/ml. The negative control used was 10% Tween 80 + sterile aquadest, while Nystatin 50 μg/disk used positive control. The test and control solutions were placed over the Sabouraud Dextrose Agar medium which had been applied to the mushroom suspension and then incubated at 37oC for 24 hours. Result and Conclusion: The ethanol fraction of tubers of Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr at the level of 50 μL, the test solution absorbed at the concentration of 80 mg/ml ie 4,000 μg/disk concentration of 120mg/ml ie 6,000 μg/disk, 160 mg/ml ie 8,000 μg/disk. Whereas at the level of 80 μL, the test solution absorbed at the concentration of 80 mg/ml ie 6,400 μg/disk concentration of 120 mg/ml ie 9,600 μg/disk, 160 mg/ml ie 128,000 μg/disk. The Negative control did not show any inhibition zones and for positive control at a level of 50 μl was 8,27 and level of 80 μl were 7.41. The group of compounds contained in the ethanol fraction was contain alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolics and anthraquinones.
