- Thematic training is “a problem solving-oriented and specific technology-oriented learning” that which is conducted in stages. Because classified as a new model in agricultural training so that need to be examined further about the factors that influence in improving farmer competence and adoption of technology. The purpose of this research are: 1. Describe farmers competency and technology adoption; 2. Analyzing the effect of farmer characteristics, facilitators competency and technology characteristics on farmers' competency; 3. Analyzing the effect of farmer characteristics, extension competency and technology characteristics on technology adoption; 4. Analyzing the influence of farmers’ competency on technology adoption. This research is an explanatory research about causal relationship (cause of effect) with several variables that observed by Structural Equation Model-Part Least Square (SEM-PLS). The research is case study in Madiun Regency. The results showed that the farmers characteristics, the facilitators competency have a significant effect on competence of farmers, while the technology characteristics has no significant effect on the farmers competency. The farmers characteristics, the facilitators competency and the farmers competence have a significant effect directly on technology adoption, while the technology characteristics have no significant effect on technology adoption. Indirectly, the characteristics of farmers significantly influence the technology adoption, while indirectly the facilitators competency and the technology characteristics have no significant effect.
