- Background : The content of napthaquinone as an anti-bacterial found in Dayak Onion (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr.) Inhibits bacterial growth, especially Staphylococcus epidermidis. In this study, the preparation of cream type O/W was made with the active ingredient of Dayak Onion extract ethanol. Research Objective : This study was to determine the effect of Dayak Onion ethanol extract levels with concentrations of 2%, 4% and 6% on the physical characteristics of Dayak Onion ethanol extract cream and to determine the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. Method : The vanishing cream base was made then added with Dayak Onion ethanol extract with 3 concentrations, there are 2%. 4%. 6%. Physical characteristics tests include organoleptic, pH, viscosity, dispersion, emulsion type, homogeneity. Antibacterial activity test with the well diffusion method. Results and Conclusions : Dayak Onion extract ethanol cream preparations had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis with concentrations of 2%, 4%, 6%, respectively with an average area (7.33±1,1547mm), (8.67±0,5774mm), (11, 67±0,5774mm). The organoleptic test for formulas I, II, and III showed a yellow color, distinctive odor, had a thick and homogeneous texture. The results of the test data found significant differences in pH and antibacterial tests. But it does not have a significant difference in the viscosity and dispersion test. Based on the test results of physical and antibacterial characteristics, it can be concluded that formula III (6%) has optimal results.
