- Background : Dayak onion (Eluetherine palmofolia (L). Merr) is a typical plant of Central Kalimantan. Napthakuinon is one of either content secondary metabolites of this plant. it was able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. So it can to makes gel dosage forms as an antibacterial agent. Purposes : This study to determine the effect of dayak onion ethanolic extract with consentration 2%, 4% and 6% to the physical characteristics of gel preparations and antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus. Method : Made a gel dayak onion ethanolic extract. The consentration of onion dayak ethanolic extract is 2%, 4%, and 6%. And than, it can to tests for physical characteristics is organoleptic, pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogenity and antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity test for the best choice is using wells method. Results and Conclusions: after the test of physical characteristic, the result are significant differences in viscosity, antibacterial activity and spreadability. But it haven't a significant difference in pH data test. Based on the physical characteristics of pH, viscosity and spreadability, formula III with 6% exctract had optimal results at 166,000 cps of viscosity and had a spread 0.005 g/cm and had the greatest inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria from the three formulas which have a mean of 12.67 ± 0.58 mm.
