PERBEDAAN EFEKTIVITAS PEMBERIAN RENDAM AIR GARAM DAN RENDAM AIR JAHE TERHADAP SKALA NYERI PADA LANSIA PENDERITA ASAM URAT

- Background : Gout has the typical symptoms felt by sufferers such as pain in one or more joints. These symptoms can interfere comfort in activities. Gout is the most common disease in the elderly which ranks second in Indonesia. According to WHO (2013), 81% of gout sufferers in Indonesia only 24% went to the doctor, while 57% inclined to consume drugs pain reliever that are sold freely. The use of drugs that are sold freely without surveillance from a doctor can lead to dependence and also have contraindications, therefore non-pharmacological therapy, namely salt water soak therapy and ginger water soak can be a recommendation to relieve pain in gout sufferers. Method : This study used the Quasy Experimental Two Group design with the pretest-posttest approach. The sampling technique used Quota Sampling with a total sample of 22 elderly. 11 elderly in the salt water soak group and 11 elderly in the ginger water soak group. Data analysis in this study used the Mann Whitney U-test with significance α = <0.05. Results : The results of the study showed that the average rank of salt water soaked group was 7.45 while the group of ginger water soaked was 15.55, which meant that the salt water soaked group was more decreased than the ginger water soaked group. The results of the statistical test were found to be significant at 0.003 (0.003 <0.05), meaning that there was a difference in the effectiveness of soaking salt water and soaking ginger water for the pain scale in elderly with gout. Conclusion : Salt water soak therapy is more effective than ginger water soak for the pain scale in elderly with gout. This research is expected to be applied to elderly gout sufferers to resolve pain by non-pharmacological therapy that are the salt water soak and the ginger water soak therapy.
