  • School is the place where most activities are carried out for students after home. All works and activities at school or home are carried out through reading and even we learn or to acquire knowledge we should read. However, the interest in reading in the community is still low. Therefore, many programs were conducted to build the interest in reading and one of the most visible attempt is implemented in school. This research is intended to answer the following problems; 1) the application of a reading culture in elementary school; 2) supporting factors for the application of reading culture; 3) inhibiting factors for reading culture; 4) solutions to overcome reading culture in elementary school. The study used qualitative research and using description to show the results. This study does not use numbers because the results is in form of description of words and images based on the facts found. The data collection were obtained through two kinds of sources, namely primary and secondary sources through interviews and documentation. This research is located in Tlekung 02 Batu State Elementary School. Based on the results of this study found that the reading culture of students today is still developing. However, various parties from the school or family environment have helped in implementing a reading culture. The activities in the school are numerous and always involve reading then some extracurricular activities that encourage the implementation of a reading culture. The environment in the family is actually also very influential because every day there are more activities at home because all the habits or culture mostly come from the home environment. Suggestions and input for school and the teacher should rearrange how the right time for reading culture activities. Then in the class facilities of this activity should be added. Parents are also asked to give a few injections of motivation inside the house so that the spirit of reading also increases.
