  • Background: Elderly is a physiological change naturally and continuously that everyone have. The Elderly might could disappointment, irritability, harassment and physical decline, especially the elderly health namely cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and bad feeling might anxiety caused, stress, depression or madness. The handling can be performed by progressive muscle relaxation exercise, is a movement of certain muscle relaxation in combination with breathing exercises that can reduce the level of anxiety. Method: This study used a pra-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest design using Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) measuring instruments. The population in this study were elderly in the Bunulrejo Village of Malang. The total sample is 30 respondents who have accorded the criteria. Result: The results of this study showed that the results of statistical analysis using Paired T-tests obtained 0,000 (p<0,05), it can be concluded that H0 rejected and H1 accepted, so there is the effect of progressive muscle relaxation exercise to decrease the level of anxiety in the elderly in Bunulrejo Village of Malang. Conclusion : There is an effect of progressive muscle relaxation exercise to decrase the level of anxiety in the elderly in Bunulrejo Village of Malang.
