- Stigma and discrimination against people with HIV / AIDS are still common in the community. HIV / AIDS is often associated with bad behavior or habits that are contrary to the positive norms in society. The purpose of this study is to find out the experiences and understanding of PLWHA on stigma and discrimination and to know the resilience of PLWHA in facing stigma and discrimination. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach, using purposive sampling method in determining informants according to the research criteria and uses two theories, namely the theory of resilience and the theory of stigma and discrimination. The results of this study explain that the experience of PLWHA for stigma and discrimination is not all informants feel sad, hopeless, helpless, afraid of being rejected and thinking of suicide. Likewise with the understanding of PLWHA on stigma and discrimination, they consider stigma and discrimination to be a warning so that they become better individuals, that attitude they go through because of their experience, social support and spirituality. Experience, social support, and spirituality is one that encourages the potential for resilience of PLWHA. The form of resilience of PLWHA is in the form of optimism, confidence, self motivation, empathy and being able to control emotions well.
