  • Teaching reading is not easy because reading is the primary skills in learning a language. The teacher have obligation to teach reading using appropriate technique to help the students’ become a better reader. This study aimed to know the students perception towards technique of teaching reading used by the teacher. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The subject was 28 students’ of 11th grade in language class. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire (open-ended) and interview. The result of this study showed that most of the students have positive perception towards technique of teaching reading used by the teacher. There was some factors that makes the students give positive perception; the teaching technique are easy to follow and understand, the teaching technique are fun and interesting, the students can increase their vocabulary, insight and pronunciation, the teacher provide Q and A session, the teacher gave opportunity for the students to have discussion, the teaching technique prepared students for examination, and the students’ can improve their speaking skill. Meanwhile, the result of this study also provides negative perception from the students. The students gave negative perception because unclear presentation of the teaching techniques, the teaching technique is monotonous and the teacher gives a lot of assignment.
