To get the data of this study, the writer used three research instruments. First, an interview was done with the English teacher to get the data of the kinds of techniques used in teaching reading comprehension. Second, the observation was conducted to get the data about the implementation of teaching reading comprehension in the classroom. The results of the study show that the English teacher used various techniques in teaching reading comprehension: top-down model, skimming, scanning, reading aloud, and. In the classroom the teacher used three reading stages that include pre-reading, whilst-reading, and post-reading activities. Based on the research findings, It can be concluded that pre-reading activities used by the teacher are intended to arouse the students’ interest and motivation and to activate their background knowledge and whilst-reading activities are done to involve them more actively. Meanwhile, post-reading activities are conducted to give them a chance to relate what has been read with their daily experience.
