Daftar Isi:
- Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the metabolic groups with characteristics of hyperglycemia due to a disruption in insulin secretion or the performance of insulin production. Continuous hyperglycemia in people with diabetes mellitus will cause damage and dysfunction in other organs, especially blood vessels, senses of vision, heart and musculoskeletal system and slowing motoric response which decreases body balance and high risk of falling. Method: This research is an observational research with cross sectional method. By using the quota sampling technique, the number of samples was 46 people. To measure the risk of falls is a balance measurement using Berg Balance Scale. Diabetes status data is reinforced by secondary data and medical records of respondents in Arjuno Health Center, Malang City. Results: from 46 people there were 19 respondents (41.3%) at risk of falling high, 22 respondents (47.8%) at risk of moderate fall, 5 respondents (10.9%) at risk of falling low. After a correlation test using spearman’s correlation, the results obtained p value = 0.000 which indicates the existence of a long duration of diabetes mellitus with a risk of falling with a value of r = 0.864 which indicates a strong relationship between variables. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the risk of falls.
