- ABSTRACT This study aims to determine how Indonesia's role in maintaining maritime security through the membership of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during Joko Widodo's reign. IMO is a body of the United Nations which has the task of regulating and setting security and safety standards for International Shipping. As the largest archipelagic country and the geographical location of Indonesia, which is located between two continents and two brothers, making dense waters with national and international shipping activities. Therefore there is a need for regulations and standardization of the shipping industry in accordance with international standards determined by IMO so as to prevent the occurrence of marine accidents and maritime security as a whole. In the president Joko Widodo's government, Indonesia has national interests as the World Maritime Axis (PMD). Indonesia wants to make the maritime economy (maritime) a priority priority for future national economic development. The creation of maritime security through cooperation in international forums such as IMO will be able to accelerate the ideals of Indonesia as the world's maritime axis. By using the concept of national interests and maritime security, this research will illustrate what are the roles and efforts of Indonesia in IMO membership.
