  • Conflicts involving the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar have been going on for centuries. Starting from a dispute between the Rakhine and Rohingya ethnic groups, the Rohingya were not recognized as Myanmar citizens as evidenced by the issuance of the 1982 Myanmar Citizenship Law. Starting from here, the Rohingya ethnic group increasingly became the target of persecution from both Rakhine and the Government. On their own land, the Rohingyas were slaughtered, killed, raped and their homes were burned. This brutal action caused Rohingya people to flee to Bangladesh. The author uses the concept of human security to see why Bangladesh accepts basic humanitarian Rohingya refugees, and the durable solution concept to see how Bangladesh handles Rohingya refugees to produce policies implemented by Bangladesh.
