- Sorghum as a food crop, the development of sorghum in Indonesia still faces a number of technical and socio-economic constraints. One of the problems in the development of sorghum in Indonesia, is the lack of development of superior sorghum varieta, difficulty in obtaining superior local seeds because of the lack of development of identification and characterization of sorghum. Therefore, research is needed to characterize sorghum plants. Characterization is an activity that aims to identify important characteristics of economic value, or which are characteristic of the variety concerned. This research was conducted in the rice fields, located in Purut Rejo Village, Purworejo District, Pasuruan City in September to December 2018. Tools used by agricultural equipment (hoes, sickles, tangkil, scop, spreyer, stringent), stationery, cameras, Munsell Plant Tissue Color Book, plant labels Materials to be used are nine local sorghum genotypes from various regions in East Java. This study uses cluster or cluster test analysis and research parameters in the vegetative phase. The results of research on sorghum leaves in nine genotypes showed differences and similarities in color both young leaves and old leaves. The shape of the leaves leaves the ribbon, the shape of the tip of the leaf tapered and the base of the ovoid leaf has a flat leaf edge. The color of the leaf bone is different in each genotype, the leaf bone is parallel in shape. different leaf tongue and similarity in each genotype. The surface texture of sorghum is coarse hairy, downy and finely hairy. The direction of the sorghum leaf blade is curved and slightly curved. Root The root system of fibrous sorghum, with the shape of a pointed root tip rounded root shape. The color of the branch roots of nine genotypes is different in each genotype and also shows similarities. Based on the cluster morphology test of roots, stems and leaves, the percentage of large groups with similarity in group 1 was 49.19%, group 2 was 44.66%, group 3 was 39.00% and group 4 was 31.44% Percentage of similarity did not reach 65%
