  • Indonesia is a maritime country. Indonesia in the era of President Joko Widodo has a vision of government, namely to become the World Maritime Axis. In realizing this vision, one way to do that is to conduct maritime cooperation with Japan. The reason Indonesia is cooperating with Japan is because it is a maritime country and as a way to strengthen the friendship between the two long-established countries, and this cooperation was the first time the two countries have carried out maritime affairs. This study aims to find out how Indonesia interests in conducting maritime cooperation with Japan by using the concept of International Cooperation and the concept of National Interest. In its development, Indonesia and Japan agreed to carry out maritime cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Cooperation to Establish the Indonesia-Japan Maritime Forum (IJMF).
