- ABSTRACT It is a basic reality that we as humans need to interact and communicate with each other and with our environment to survive and create a well-structured community and civilization. We, therefore, use such tools to fulfill this need, one that really essential is language. Language has a very important function in our lives as a communication instrument. It also represents the shape of our society's structure. The presents research focuses on the language style used by the winner of Toastmasters world champion of public speaking 2014. The researcher use the qualitative research method. This research was intended to investigate the kinds of language styles that used and the characteristics of that language style itself. The data was collected from the document analysis which are the video documentary and its transcripts entitled “I see something” by Dananjaya Hettiarachchi. Based on the analysis, there are 5 kinds of language style related with the theories. Those are, intimate style, casual style, consultative style, formal style and frozen style. Nevertheless, the results of data analysis the researcher found only four out of those five kinds of language style used which are intimate style, casual style, consultative style, and formal style. The researcher has found most of the produced words used in the speech on this world public speaking championship consisted of casual style which is suitable to be used in less-formal event.
