  • The garbage collection officer is a group that is vulnerable to work-related illnesses or accidents. This incident was aggravated when a garbage officer was not aware that he was at the source of an infection, so a garbage officer needed to know the cause of the infection because there was no protection from the humans themselves. The low level of compliance in using PPE shows a failed safety management system, limited facilities, low worker awareness of work safety. So the purpose of this study is to identify knowledge, perceptions, and self awareness in compliance with the use of PPE in the garbage officer. This study used a correlational research design with cross-sectional method. The sample used was a garbage officer totaling 37 people who were trash processing workers in the TPA Supit Urang Malang City, this research was conducted in April 2019. The variables observed were Knowledge, Perception, and Self-Awareness in compliance with the use of PPE. Data analysis used Chi Square Test with significant α = 0.05. The relationship between Knowledge, Perception, and Self-Awareness in compliance with the use of PPE obtained a significance value of each amounting to Knowledge: 0.009, Perception: 0.001, Self-Awareness: 0.002 because the significance value is smaller than 0.050 so there is a relationship between Knowledge, Perception, and Self-Awareness in compliance with the use of PPE (Self Confusion Tool). (p = Knowledge: 0.009, Perception: 0.001, Self-Awareness: 0.002). The description of knowledge, perceptions and self awareness in compliance with the use of PPE in garbage officers at the TPA Supit Urang Malang City was found to be related to all variables.
