- Hermetia illucen larvae culture has been developed in recent years because it is indicated to have a high protein content. However, information regarding the growth media that is appropriate to the growth rate and protein content is still limited. This study aims to determine the differences in growth (including the relative growth rate, daily feed consumption, and larval survival) and the protein content of H.illucen larvae that are bred on waste organic medium of Brassica pekinensis and Brassica oleracea. This experimental study used a completely randomized design with a samples of 800 H.illucen instar larvae. Collecting data used observation method and Lowry protein analysis. The data analysis technique used in the study was the Independent sample t-test after the data were declared normal and reliable based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Levene's tests. The independent t-test results showed that the relative growth, daily food consumption, and protein content of H.illucen larvae cultured on different waste medium was significantly different with significance score (<0.05) while the larval survival is not significantly different (sig 0.704>0.05). These results indicate that the conversion of larval protein grown in the B. pekinensis medium is more efficient even though the growth relative and daily feed consumption are lower than the B. oleracea medium.
