- Hoax crime is regulated in Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE Article 28. There are many false reports that have been spread and so disturbing the public, to make the community comfortable, the police use the ITE Law as a regulation and clarify, provide counter-attacks, investigate, but until now the news continues to spread. Problems: What are the efforts to prevent criminal acts from spreading hoax news by the police, what are the obstacles and solutions of the police in tackling hoax news. Research: sociological juridical. Data: field studies with interviews and literature studies. Speaker: Head of Malang District Police Sub-dept. Of Criminal Investigation. Data analysis: qualitative juridical. The results of the study revealed that the role of the Police in the handling of hoax crimes using pre-emptive effort 1) was to conduct socialization to the public directly and upload the notion of hoax news and its characteristics on social media using the official account of the Malang Police; 2) prevention by establishing a cyber patrol task force and; 3) repressive conduct of arrest or detention of perpetrators of hoax news dissemination which is continued with the investigation process.
