  • This study analyzes in general about how the strategy was carried out by Japan in an effort to incorporate washoku into the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. In 2013 washoku was recorded as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The entry of Washoku as part of ICH has an impact on some aspects that are felt by Japan. This study uses a Descriptive type of research where researchers will generalize data collection to answer and test the strategies undertaken by Japan to enter the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Based on the concept of gastrodiplomacy, soft diplomacy carried out by Japan through food became an important point in the implementation of diplomacy. It is through this washoku that Japan seeks to introduce to other countries how culinary and culture has a relationship with the national identity and national branding. ICH is used as a means to promote Japanese culture to the international community. This phenomenon is a momentum for Japan in an effort to promote culinary and cultural possessions in order to achieve a cultural understanding that is owned by Japan, so that it is expected to be able to have a big influence on other sectors.
