  • Based on observation data shows that student learning outcomes on the material on the theme of Our Friends Environment Human and Environmental Subtema in SDN Lebo Sidoarjo is still lacking. The cause of the problem is because the teacher still emphasizes the concepts that are in the book by using conventional learning and students are not given the opportunity to think critically in order to solve the surrounding problems which ultimately have an impact on students who are less active. So, it is necessary to increase efforts through the use of PBL learning models. This study aims to (1) describe the application of the PBL model to improve the activity and learning outcomes of theme 8 in fifth grade students of SDN Lebo Sidoarjo, (2) describe the improvement of learning outcomes in the fifth grade of Lebo Sidoarjo Elementary School after the PBL model was applied. Implementation of learning has been carried out in accordance with the steps in implementing the PBL model that took place well in the first cycle and second cycle. The percentage of student learning activities with a very good category, the first cycle reached 58%, and the second cycle reached 92%. While the percentage of student learning outcomes in the first cycle reached 54% with classical completeness determined by the school that is 75%, and in the second cycle the classical completeness percentage reached 81%. The results of this study indicate that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can improve student learning activities and outcomes on Theme 8 of Our Friends Environment and Human Subtema.
