  • This research is to determine the effectiveness of mathematical communication verbally and in writing students in learning mathematics and to find out the inhibiting factors of mathematical communication in general during mathematics learning. Using quantitative and qualitative research with data collection techniques such as observation, tests, interviews and documentation. Data collection uses the RPP sheet, oral communication observation sheet, description test sheet, and interview guide sheet. Data processing uses descriptive qualitative data and Milles Huberman analysis techniques. Based on the results obtained the effectiveness of verbal mathematical communication reached 77% with effective criteria and mathematical communication in writing reached 52%. the effectiveness of verbal mathematical communication reached 77% ineffective by 52%. The inhibiting factors of mathematical communication in general come from educators and student participants due to technical and mechanical factors, psychologists, communication opportunities, prerequisite abilities, reading, writing, and discussing skills, and writing languages, symbols, graphics, mathematical tables
