- The effectiveness of learning is an effort or strategy to achieve learning objectives. one of the goals of learning mathematics is that students have good problem solving skills. therefore, problem solving becomes the main goal in learning mathematics. Early observations researchers found that there were still many students who memorized formulas and problems in solving, so that the LAPS-heuristic model was applied. This LAPS-heuristic model students are guided to determine alternative answers consisting of questions used in solving problems. The LAPS-Heuristic model is expected to help students solve problems well. This study discusses the understanding of the LAPS-Heuristic learning model for students' problem solving abilities in Pakis Islamic Middle School on statistical material. This type of research is an experimental research study design only posttest control group design. The subjects in this study were eighth grade students of Pakis Islamic Middle School who gathered 40 students. The instruments used were RPP sheets, problem solving ability test sheets and observation sheets. Data analysis techniques using qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. The results of the study of the implementation of mathematics learning using the LAPS-Heuristic learning model at three meetings were carried out well. This can be learned with an average of 70% of the total feasibility of the learning model 70.31% in either category. Learning by using the LAPS-Heuristic learning model is effectively used against students' problem solving abilities in statistical material. This can be seen based on the t test analysis showing a significant difference in the average posttest score of students in the experimental class using the LAPS-Heuristic learning model with students in the control class using direct learning.
