- The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the STAD type cooperative learning model using open ended questions. The type of research used is descriptive research, while the approach used is quantitative. The research subjects were 27th grade students of VII-B Mambaul Ulum Islamic Middle School in East Ponjanan. The researcher gave the test in the form of open ended questions to students related to the quadrilateral and triangle material individually twice. The data analysis technique in the research used is the formula for the average percentage of teacher activity and the formula for the average percentage of student learning outcomes. The results of data analysis showed that the data on the percentage of teacher activity from observer I was 90.97% with a very good category and observer II was 95.14% with very good categories. While the percentage of student learning outcomes reached 85.19% of students from the whole were declared complete or achieved a score above the KKM. Based on the results of these studies it can be concluded that the STAD type cooperative learning model using open ended questions is effective in learning.
