  • This research aimed to see how students think in doing horizontal and vertical mathematical processes. The learning material used by researchers was about a flat side of space plane with a Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. Students of class VII A SMP Negeri 3 Bandung were the subjects in this study with a total of 26 students. However, in the test and interview activities, there were 7 students who were absent so that the data obtained were 19 students. The results of the 19 students showed that there were 5 students who got high category scores, 5 students got the medium category scores and 9 students got low category scores. Through Student Worksheets (LKS), the tests and interviews obtained the results of how students were doing in mathematical processes. Students who got high category scores fulfilled all indicators of thinking horizontal and vertical mathematical processes. While students who get the medium and low category scores did not do the whole indicator. However, students were still able to find mistakes they made and through a process of discussion with researchers.
