  • Authentic material provides something new which is interesting in the teaching and learning process. It can build students’ participation in learning English. This study aimed to determine the type of authentic materials used by the lecturer, how to implement and how the students participated in the learning process using authentic material. The research method used of this study was qualitative design. Data collection techniques were observation and the research instruments were field notes. The subjects of this study were the first semester students of accounting class at University Muhammadiyah Malang. The conclusion of this study is that, the type of authentic material used by lecturers is authentic printed material such as: biography, letter of CEO and brochure about loans. In the implementation process, the students enthusiastically participate by asking questions, responding, giving objections, following the course and doing assignments well.
