- In lathe process, a coolant influences the surface roughness and surface temperature. The use of coolant in lathe proces functioned as awarf waster, it also decreases temperature. Besides, it has function as lubricant, improves machine working and prolong the tool endurance-the tool would not be worn-out. Jatropha Curcas Lin oil is one of bio-oils that has FFA and triglyceride contents. It has fatty acid and regiospesific or stereospesific profil, where its function is to increase oxidative and thermal stability. The oil content of jatropa curcas lin is greater than palm oil, where jatropha curcas lin is 32-35%, while palm oil is 24%. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in jatropha curcas lin oil coolant on the lathe process and to determine the level of surface roughness as well as surface temperature on ST41 material with cermet tools.
