- Writing is a productive skill which is difficult to learn. Teaching technique applied by the teachers is one of the external factors that makes writing become difficult. In this condition, most of the teachers who teach writing do not make evaluation on their teaching technique. Hence, the teachers do not know whether their teaching technique already suitable or not for their students. This study investigated the students’ perceptions toward technique of teaching writing in the tenth grade used by the teacher at MAN Kota Batu. By conducting this study, the teacher could know the students’ perceptions. However, the findings can be used as a tool for the teacher to evaluate the writing teaching technique. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach. Thirty three tenth grade students at MAN Kota Batu were became the participants in this study. All the students participated to answer open-ended questionnaire. In addition, five students were chosen by the researcher to answer semi-structured interview in order to gather more information. The findings of both instruments; open-ended questionnaire and semi structured interview described that positive and negative perceptions about writing teaching technique were given by tenth-grade students at MAN Kota Batu. Furthermore, the students’ also gave their opinions about writing teaching technique that they preferred from the teacher.
