  • Background: The etiology of diarrhea caused by infection has clear differences between regions with different economic developments and hygiene. Common bacteria that cause diarrhea in developed countries. One of the bacteria that causes diarrhea is Escherichia coli. Myrmecodia sp is one of the plants that has been tested to have an antibacterial effect in vivo. Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of Myrmecodia sp on the effective dose of these plants on the viability of Escherichia coli bacteria in mice (Mus musculus) which had been induced by Escherichia coli bacteria. Method: this study used 24 wistar strain white male mice with a body weight of 20-30 grams, which were divided into 6 groups, each of which consisted of 4 mice, are healthy animals , negative control, positive controls, P1 (0.4 ml Escherichia coli infection and Myrmecodia Sp 25 mg / kg ethanol extract), P2 (0.4 ml Escherichia coli infection and Myrmecodia Sp 50 mg / kg ethanol extract), P3 (Escherichia coli infection 0.4 ml and ethanol extract of Myrmecodia Sp 100 mg / kg). Results and Conclusions: The results showed that the ethanol extracts of 0.025 g / kgBB, 50 mg / kgBB and 100 mg / kgBB of Myrmecodia sp. had an effect on decreasing the viability of Escherichia coli bacteria in faeces of the mice (Mus musclus) induced by Escherichia coli bacteria. Effective dose to reduce the viability of Escherichia coli bacteria is the administration of ethanol extract of tuber Myrmecodia sp dose of 50 mg / kgBB.
