- Idiom may have a simple sentence but it is hard to be translated. We need to look for more than a literal meaning of it by the context. Idiomatic expression is a group of words that apparently have a special meaning that is different from the actual meaning. This research examined the type of idioms found in Maroon 5’s song lyrics and the meaning of idioms found in Maroon 5’s song lyric. The research aimed to know the type of idioms and to describe the meaning of them. The research conducted by the researcher using a qualitative approach and it served into short essay and paragraph. The data was collected using document or content analysis to give a wide range of explanation to gain an understanding of the phenomenon related to the research. The research employed the transcript of the songs and the researcher itself as the instrument to collect the data. The result of the research shows that the idiomatic expression found in Maroon 5’s song lyrics are 18 idioms, consisting of 10 Phrasal verbs, 5 Tournure, and 3 Irreversible Binomial. Maroon 5’s song dominantly talked about fall in love, misery, and mercy. The meaning of each idiomatic expressions also has been described more than the literal meaning to make us more understanding with the purpose of the songs.
