- Modernization can cause a decrease in the interest of the people of Malang Regency in the wayang kulit art. All communities and governments have a responsibility to protect the arts. DISPARBUD as a government agency is fully responsible for culture and tourism in Malang Regency, therefore DISPARBUD has several strategies in order to be able to increase interest in wayang kulit art. This study aims to determine (1) the strategy undertaken by DISPARBUD to save wayang’s art, (2) the obstacles faced by DISPARBUD in implementing the strategy of saing wayang’s art to make a higher nasionalism, and (3) to know about the response of people of Malang Regency about the strategies implemented by DISPARBUD. Data collection is done through observation, interviews and study documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The credibility of the study is known through testing the validity of the data with technical triangulation and source triangulation procedures. The results showed that DISPARBUD conducted various strategies such as conducting competitions and holding shadow puppet shows routinely in Malang Regency. In implementing the strategy, DISPARBUD is constrained by distance. Public response to the strategy implemented by DISPARBUD has been very good, besides that the strategy implemented by DISPARBUD can increase the nationalism of the people of Malang Regency.
