- The efforts that have been made by BUMDes Gondowangi are social business which includes two types of businesses, namely Village Drinking Water Management (PAMDes) which is managed by the village community in meeting clean water needs, and Waste Management which is recycled back into handicraft materials economic value. The method used in this study is descriptive with qualitative analysis. While the technique of data collection is done through interview methods, documentation and observation. This research was conducted at the Gondowangi Village Office and the BUMDes Office in Gondowangi Village, Wagir District, Malang Regency. In this study the author uses Chambers' theory of community empowerment. Community empowerment implemented by Gondowangi Village is how to improve the economy of rural communities through the development of BUMDes with (1) planning (2) counseling and training (3) implementation of (4) development. In practice, the economic improvement carried out by the Gondowangi Village Government went quite well, seen from 2 business units that had been running from 2008. The economy of the community incorporated in the BUMDes business unit increased from the previous one who only worked as odd jobs and housewives. Constraints experienced by the Village Government are promotions for the sale of collections from the waste management business unit, and lack of transportation units that are very useful to facilitate the process of transporting garbage and clean water. Gondowangi Village BUMDes have limited budget, which is only 20 million rupiah from ADD which is considered lacking and needs additional funds for the smooth development of BUMDes.
