- Psychological distress was found among Indonesian high school students, especially before the national exam. In many cases they experienced the high level of anxiety and stress, which could bring them into suicide. One of the most important factor that influence the psychological distress of high school students is social support. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between social support and psychological distress in high school students. This is a quantitative correlation reserach with 321 students of class XI SMA NU 1 Gresik taken by total sampling technique. The Hopkins Symptom Checklist -25 scale and social support scale was used as the research instrument. The methods of data analysis using the Pearson product moment correlation from Karl Pearson with the help of SPSS version 21.0. The analysis finds that there is a significant negative relationship between social support and psychological distress in high school students with value (r = -0.310) and value (p = 0.000 <0.01). It means, the higher the social support, the lower psychological distress in high school students and vice versa.
