For most people the successes in learning a language can be seen from how far the student can speak and communicate in the language learning. The objective of this research is to know kinds of method used and how the lecturer implement the method in teaching speaking at fourth-semester students of ELED UMM.&#xD; This study employs qualitative design by which the researcher intends to discover and understand method of teaching speaking used by the lecturer in its natural setting. The researcher conducts three time observation and an interview to gain the data. To support the necessary data, the researcher uses observation field notes and interview guide as instruments. The subject of this research is a lecturer of speaking skill at fourth-semester students of ELED UMM.&#xD; This study reveals a method implemented by the lecturer in teaching speaking skill it is CLT (Communicative Language Teaching), and to promote teaching speaking the lecturer used several activities such as presentation and role-playing, the lecturer uses role-playing to promote teaching speaking as the principle of CLT. In implementing CLT, the lecturer divided class in two groups: the first group to role playing, the second group to create a backsong.
