- Background: Oxidative stress can trigger lipid peroxidation that produces malondialdehyde (MDA) as an indicator. Meniran extract as an antioxidant can reduce free radicals from lead acetate exposure. Objective: To determine the effect of meniran extract on white rats MDA blood plasma levels exposed by lead acetate. Method: True experiment with post-test only control group design. 20 rats were divided into five groups; negative control group, positive control group, and 3 treatment groups (exposed by lead acetate and extract 20, 40, and 80 [mg/200grams weight/day]). Data were analysed by One Way Anova, Post Hoc Bonferroni, and linear regression test. Result & Discussion: The One Way Anova test results showed a significant difference in MDA levels (p = 0,000). Post Hoc test results obtained a dose of 80 mg / 200gram weight / day had a significant reduction in MDA levels (p=0,001). The results of the regression test were significant (p = 0,000) indicated there was a relationship between the dose of meniran extract and white rats MDA blood plasma levels. This is due to tannin and vitamin C in meniran increase endogenous antioxidant in rats with oxidative stress. Conclusion: Meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri L.) has an effect on decreasing white rats MDA blood plasma level which exposed by lead acetate.
